Call for Designers: PLEATS & HOME

For our upcoming issues, TAUKO Magazine invites designers to explore two themes: PLEATS for Autumn 2027 and HOME for Winter 2027.

You can submit a design for either theme – or ideas for both.

Issue No.24: PLEATS

For our Autumn issue, we turn our attention to PLEATS: folds that shape fabric, create volume and allow a garment to move and transform.

Pleats can be crisp and architectural or soft and subtle, carefully constructed or playfully unexpected. We invite contemporary sewing patterns that explore pleats and folds in different ways: as construction, shaping or detail. A pleat might define the entire silhouette or appear as a small element that transforms an otherwise simple design.

We are interested in fresh interpretations of this timeless technique, from tailoring and traditional pleating to experimental folds and unexpected applications. A design does not need to be covered in pleats to fit the theme; one considered fold can be enough to transform a design.

Issue No.25: HOME

For our Winter issue, we turn our attention to HOME.

Think of the garments that make you feel at home: the pieces you reach for on a home-office day, a slow morning, a day off or a gathering with friends and family. Clothes that bring comfort and ease, while still making you feel dressed.

HOME also looks at the things we make for the spaces we live in. Alongside garments, we invite patterns for practical and beautiful textile objects: quilts, cushions, table textiles, storage, kitchen textiles and other things made from fabric.

We are looking for contemporary sewing patterns that bring comfort, function and beauty into everyday life, from small projects made with scraps to larger pieces that become a lasting part of the home.

Call

We invite you to submit your designs for Issue No.24 PLEATS and Issue No.25 HOME, set to be published in Autumn and Winter 2027.

The call is open to all designers, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, ability, size, sexual identity or age. We will select approximately 8–10 designers for each issue, and multiple entries are welcome. You may submit designs for either issue or for both.

Please note that all designs must be original and not previously published or shared, including photographs of samples or finished projects. If you're unsure whether your design is eligible, please reach out.

What we offer designers

For designers collaborating with TAUKO Magazine, our comprehensive support package offers a range of services to elevate your designs and support your creative journey. From idea clarification to design grading in nine sizes, we provide thorough development and editing of patterns and sewing instructions. Our professional proofreading and editing team ensures precision in your step-by-step instructions.

You'll receive a complete online sales package with various pattern sizes, guidelines and instructions, making it hassle-free to sell your pattern online. Engage with our vibrant TAUKO Make & Share community before the issue launch and gain exposure through social media features, a dedicated magazine feature, editorial photography and illustrations.

You'll also receive a printed copy of the magazine, the option to purchase copies at wholesale prices for resale, and the opportunity to sell your PDF pattern in our online store with a 50% commission. After a four-month exclusivity period, you regain the freedom to sell the pattern independently.

Ready to submit?

Submitting is easy: we only need a design sketch, preferably shown on a body, and a brief design presentation explaining your inspiration, suggested fabrics and how the design responds to either PLEATS or HOME.

If you have additional materials, feel free to include them. You will be able to upload a PDF file up to 10 MB in size.

If your design is selected, we're happy to help with pattern-making, grading and technical support.
