FREEDOM by Elina Vuorema:
The FREEDom wrap dress is a versatile and easy-fit garment that can be turned into a statement piece through the use of bold patterned fabrics. With its various tie options and detachable belt, the dress transforms into a light coat that is perfect for layering during the early days of spring. Helsinki based seamstress Elina Vuorema created the FREEDOM wrap dress as a garment that can be worn anywhere: at home, at the beach, and at parties. It’s beautiful, practical, and comfortable at the same time. The pattern has a simple, wide sleeve and hem and is easily adjustable for different body types. A dashing piece for both beginners and experts!

The print dress is made from Grassina by VIIKUNA (OEKO-TEX cotton satin, 3.8 oz/yd2 / 130 g/m2). The green dress is made from Tencel (6.9 oz/yd2 / 235 g/m2) by Majapuu.

The FREEDOM dress is available in Issue No.2.

FRITHA by Fanni Lyytikäinen:
Fanni Lyytikäinen is a Helsinki-based multidisciplinary designer and artist with a background in styling, set design, trend forecasting, art directing, illustration, and fashion design. The FRITHA trousers are part of her thesis project, which explores how the artificial dualism of nature and culture can be countered through clothing design. She encourages people to see nature in urban areas and to bring fashion-inspired silhouettes to trekking trails.

The FRITHA trousers are voluminous maxi trousers with a gathered waistline and side pockets for everyday use. This easy pattern comes in three size ranges, and you can adjust the length of the legs by making an extra fold on the hem. Detailed with long signature strings and hand-sewn buttonholes, the FRITHA trousers are a great addition to any crafter’s wardrobe.

FRITHA trousers are made from a 45% linen and 55% cotton blend by Kultavilla.

The FRITHA trousers are available in Issue No.2.

SILENCE by Maureen Gleason:
Maureen Gleason is a Berlin-based performer, maker, vocalist, and textile artist currently in the process of merging these disciplines.

The SILENCE smock is a design based on a zero-waste pattern technique for fabric with a width of 63.8"/162 cm. You can add buttons on the collar or use excess fabric scraps to create a patchwork design. The garment is constructed from rectangular pieces that are cut without a pattern template, following the step-by- step cutting instructions. The pattern sheet includes a few curved pattern templates. The smock’s boxy shape gives it a minimalistic look with big pockets on the front and back as signature elements.

The marine blue smock is made from Bio Köper (100% organic cotton twill, GOTS CERES-076, 6.1 oz/yd2 / 207 g/m2) by Lebenskleidung and the soft white cotton jersey is by Pure Waste (4.7 oz/yd2 / 160 g/m2).

The SILENCE smock is available in Issue No.2.

SPARKLE by Kaisa Rissanen:
Kaisa Rissanen, the cofounder of TAUKO magazine, lives in Helsinki, Finland, in a cute yet small apartment with her family. The SPARKLE shirt design is inspired by the rhythm of a partly transparent striped viscose blend fabric. During the design process, Kaisa’s aim was to highlight the beautiful sheerness of the fabric. Yet she also wanted to make a shirt that feels comfortable enough for both daily and festive use. “I like to start my design process with the fabric: its feeling, texture, colour, or any special features. It’s like a titillating game for me to discover ideas to match the demands of a certain fabric.”

The SPARKLE shirt plays with the rhythm of striped, sheer fabric and invites you to experience layering sheer jerseys. The pattern comes in two different sleeve variations, and you can easily hack it to make a T-shirt for the warmer spring days.

The samples are made from a sheer striped knit (46% viscose, 27% cotton, 27% modal).

The SPARKLE shirt is available in Issue No.2.

ISABELLA by Birgitta Helmersson:
Birgitta Helmersson is a designer and patternmaker based in Malmö, Sweden. The ISABELLA dress and top are some of the very first zero-waste pieces Birgitta made. This oversized style uses simple stripes to create flattering lines and proportions, and it’s a great pattern to use up any leftover ends of fabric you may have lying around. The pattern is laid out in blocks that are easy to modify. Once you have mastered cutting and sewing your first garment, it’s fun to play around with drafting your own pattern hacks by adjusting the length and width of the stripes to create unique variations

ISABELLA dress and top use a mixture of different washed linens from the Merchant & Mills 185 linen collection (5.5 oz/yd2 / 185 g/m2). All fabrics have a width of 57"/145 cm.

The ISABELA dress and top are available in Issue No.2.

ANELMA by Fanni Lyytikäinen:
ANELMA is Fanni Lyytikäinen’s second design for this issue. In Fanni’s designs, every detail serves a purpose. This garment features as little cutting waste as possible. The long ribbons and strips on the sleeves and back are made from scraps that are left over after the main dress pieces have been cut from the fabric.

The ANELMA dress is a loosely fitted maxi dress with gathered sleeves. The garment can be adapted to different bodies. Although the design flirts with a classic urban dress, Fanni would love to see it worn on a nature hike. You can combine Fanni’s two designs, the ANELMA dress and the FRITHA trousers, to create a complete look with mono-materials.

ANELMA dress is made from a 45% linen and 55% cotton blend by Kultavilla.

The ANELMA dress is available in Issue No.2.

LIZA by Gian Padilla Suarez:
Gian Padilla Suarez is a clothing and textile designer living in Barcelona, Spain. Gias’s design, LIZA, is inspired by her sister Liza and the Cabaret actress Liza Minnelli. For this design, Gian pictured a simple summer dress worn at the beach while sipping a cocktail and dancing barefoot. The loose top and the back opening of the wrap skirt make it easy to move and dance.

This 3-in-1 pattern has many possible variations. Whether as a dress or a top and skirt, you can make this outfit with a huge variety of fabrics, depending on the volume and feeling you prefer. “I love the versatility of the pattern, have fun making it!”

LIZA is made from Retrosaria’s Outros linen Kentucky (4.5 oz/yd2 / 126 g/m2). Choose a light to medium weight woven, non-stretch fabric. If you wish to have more structure in the garment, you can make it from a medium weight (stiff) cotton. Be aware of the tight fit around the hip and choose a fabric that is not transparent.

The LIZA pattens is available in Issue No.2.

CARGO by Mila Moisio:
An interest in storytelling and language led Mila Moisio, the cofounder of TAUKO magazine, to study literature and write her master’s thesis on Cuban poetry. By deconstructing patterns and rebuilding them with new cuts, seemingly ordinary clothes take on a personal and even slightly poetic touch. The CARGO trousers have a special cut on side pocket that guides the seam to take a soft, unexpected turn. To create this design, Mila worked with old trousers patterns that had a very good fit. The rebuilt pattern turned into a new design that features buttons on the front and softly hugs the hips.

The CARGO trousers are made from a vintage cotton/polyester blend (4 oz/yd2 / 140 g/m2) that used to be a bed linen.

The CARGO trousers are available in Issue No.2.

SABOO by Mandi Bharij:
Mandi Bharij is an interiors buyer who lives in Walthamstow, London. The SABOO top was created to be an easy-to-throw-on, loose-fitting garment. It’s a wonderfully hackable pattern: you could even hack this pattern to add a gathered skirt on the hem, turning the shirt into a dress. Or maybe you’d like to try adding a ruffle around the neckline?

The long- sleeved SABOO is made from Tencel (6.9 oz/yd2 / 235 g/m2) by Majapuu and the short-sleeved shirt is made from Katia a blend of 83% cotton and 17% viscose (3.1 oz/yd2 / 105 g/m2).

The SABOO shirt available in Issue No.2.
