The oversize MALLOW sweater with patchwork detail comes in two variations: long- sleeved and T-shirt-sleeved. This loose and oversized design fits many different body types. All the details – the front triangle, T-shirt sleeves, and hem bindings – can be made with patchwork techniques or with simple blocks of colour or different textured fabrics.

Gaëlle Martin is a French ready-to-wear and knitwear designer living in Berlin. Before working as a fashion designer she was a costume assistant. This experience left her with a passion for vintage fashion photography. When designing the MALLOW sweater, Gaëlle wanted to create a cosy and accessible design, fitting for a large range of bodies – with a vintage twist. The patchwork details are a nod to the romantic imagery of the 1970s captured by the photographer Sarah moon.

Fit and size:
Choose your size based on your bust circumference. Add a recommended positive ease of approximately 14–22"/35–55 cm. Pick the size that is the best match for your bust. Note that this is an oversized design. If you prefer a fitted sweater, you can size down.

Bayi Amoussou is wearing short sleeved ochre MALLOW in size 1–3. she is 65"/164 cm tall. Claire Farrell is wearing long sleeved broken white MALLOW in size 1–3. she is 61"/155 cm tall.

Fabric recommendations:
Choose medium to heavy weight stretch jersey fabric for the bodice and light to medium weight cotton for the patchwork details. The sample sweaters are made from an organic French terry cotton (7.7 oz/260 gsm) and a 95% organic cotton, 5% elastane rib (13 oz/440 gsm), both by Lebenskleidung. The patch- work details are made from three floral print cottons (3–5 oz/104–167 gsm) by Liberty of London. This is also a great opportunity to use up fabric scraps from your stash.

Files:
A4 (home printing) and A0 (copy shop printing) PDF files with layers, sizes nested. Sewing instructions are in a separate PDF file. As an extra, this pattern also includes “Paper saving pdf files” where each size has its own more efficient layout. If you only want to print one size, using these files is one way to reduce the amount of paper needed.
