The submission call for TAUKO No.21 is now open!
This issue will explore how we can rethink fashion and clothing to make it wearable and lovable for longer. We are looking for designs that can be easily modified or adapted to increase their lifespan. Wouldn't it be great if clothes could change with us? Or if, with a few easy alterations, we could pass them on as our bodies, tastes, and cultural references change?
Here are some simple ideas for what Re-Design could look like in practice:
Design solutions that make garments easy to repair or alter, or that extend their lifespan. This could be as simple as increased seam allowances, hem folds, or pleats.
Modular clothing that can be worn, styled or combined in multiple ways. For example, think of shirts and jackets with interchangeable collars, dresses with multiple hem lengths, or a coat that transforms into a bag.
Creative approaches that encourage reuse, adaptation and playful creation. Is it possible to redesign an existing garment that has lost its charm?
We welcome all ideas that highlight how sewing can inspire more sustainable and joyful fashion practices. If you have a pattern that speaks to Re-Design, whether through function, form, or philosophy, we’d love to hear from you.
