July Community Meeting
Theme: Issue No.16 “ARCHITECTURE”
What makes a garment architectural? Is it the structure, the silhouette—or the vision behind it?
In this special community meeting, we’ll open the pages of the new ARCHITECTURE issue and explore the deeper connections between fashion and the built environment. From bold, sculptural sewing patterns to essays that reflect on design as care, this issue invites us to rethink how we build, wear, and maintain the world around us.
We’ll discuss the inspirations behind the issue, share behind-the-scenes stories, and dive into conversations about form, structure, and the quieter acts of making—mending, reimagining, and tending to what already exists.
Whether you're drawn to garments that hold space or to the invisible magic of well-made seams, this is a meeting for all who love slow fashion, deep thinking, and creative connection.
When? 16 July
Time? 18:00 Helsinki time
Where? Online – Free & Open to All
Join us as we celebrate the launch of ARCHITECTURE and come together to reflect on the structures—both visible and invisible—that shape our wardrobes, our cities, and our craft.
August Community Meeting
Theme: Learn About the Design Process: From an Idea to a Pattern
What does it take to turn an idea into a finished sewing pattern? At the August TAUKO community meeting, Mila will share the creative and technical journey behind the HIUTALE dress, which she designed in collaboration with her mother-in-law as a special 80^(th) birthday gift.
We’ll explore the entire design process, which requires a team of people with a variety of skills: from finding inspiration and sketching designs to selecting suitable fabrics, adjusting the pattern for the perfect fit, and preparing for hours of cutting, sewing, and testing. Mila will also talk about creating a step-by-step tutorial to help others make the dress.
This is an opportunity to reflect on the necessary skills, tools, and mindset for pattern design, and how you can start developing your own. We will also touch on the joys and challenges of designing for someone else, and what we learnt along the way.
When? 20 August
Time? 18:00 Helsinki time
Where? Online – Free & Open to All
Whether you’re a curious beginner or a more experienced sewist, you are warmly welcome to join us!
