DELOCALIZED by Marja Niemi

Marja Niemi has a background in textile technology and physical chemistry. She is a crafts enthusiast who lives in Helsinki, Finland, and loves to sew, knit, and darn. The DELOCALIZED bag is Marja’s first published sewing pattern. The design is inspired by chemistry – more specifically, the hexagonal shapes found in organic molecules.

You can choose between two versions of this pattern: one is a small bag that can be worn either as a shoulder bag or a bum bag by adjusting the shoulder strap/belt, and the other is a larger pouch with a grab strap and an inner pocket with a zip. The size of the smaller bag is perfect for a passport, phone, and all the other small items you need close at hand while travelling. The size of the pouch comfortably holds a knitting project or travel cosmetics.

The ochre bag is made from a water-repellent canvas (8.85 oz/300 gsm) from Ecological Textiles and a cotton/linen lining. The white/grey pouch is made from acrylic-coated cotton fabric by Marimekko and a cotton poplin lining. You can use iron-on batting for the exterior pieces to make a sturdier bag/pouch.

The DELOCALIZED bag is available in Issue No.8

LA SOLINA by Petra Wünsche

Petra Wünsche lives in Cologne, Germany, and has been blogging about sewing and DIY since 2010. She is also a graphic designer, ebook-maker, and mom. A passionate do-it-yourselfer, she loves to share her interests with other DIY-minded people through her pattern label and sewing blog Pedilu.

LA SOLINA is a wide A-line skirt with an elastic waistband. It has functional pockets and tiers that are perfect for colour blocking. The voluminous skirt is comfortable and flows with your every move. Choose lightweight woven fabrics like soft linen, Lyocell, or muslin to create the perfect companion for your summer travels. It can be sewn in midi or maxi length, has an optional kangaroo pocket, and offers many options for colour blocking.

The midi skirt is made from meetMILK “Vida Voile Purple Night”, “Purple Haze”, and “Warm Sand” Lyocell (100% Tencel, 3.24 oz/110 gsm). The maxi skirt is made from “Organic Batiste Rose Quartz” (100% organic cotton, 2.65 oz/90 gsm). All fabrics sold by Siebenblau.

AGAPANTO by Francesca Barbato

Francesca Barbato isn’t just a pattern designer – she’s also the founder of an online boutique and sewing blog, Atelier Vicolo N.6.

The AGAPANTO trousers are wide-legged with a relaxed fit and a 7⁄8 length. They have an elastic waist at the back for comfort but still look like elegant, classic trousers in the front. You can make the trousers with or without the side pockets. The length can easily be adjusted to your taste: Crop the legs even more or make them longer – the style is entirely up to you!

Choose a light to medium-weight woven fabric like cotton gabardine, linen, bamboo denim, denim, or a blend like viscose/linen or linen/silk. The rose red sample is made from cotton gabardine (100% cotton, 8.26 oz/280 gsm). The purple sample is also made from cotton gabardine (98% cotton, 2% elastane, 5.31 oz/180 gsm). Both fabrics are by Atelier Vicolo N.6.

ELICRISO by Francesca Barbato

The ELICRISO tee grew from an in-depth study of this garment to achieve a design that is practical yet elegant and feminine – like all of Francesca’s patterns.

ELICRISO is a loose-fitting cropped tee with large, ruffled patch pockets. The shirt has a wide, round neckline finished with bias binding, a back slit with a button-and-thread loop closure, and simple short sleeves. The pockets are large and extend from the tee’s hem. A gathered ruffle made from a double layer of fabric adorns the pockets. If you prefer a simpler look, just omit the ruffles for a more basic version of the design.

Choose a lightweight woven fabric like cotton poplin, cotton plumetis, viscose, Tencel, linen, or silk. The sample with the ruffle is made from a cotton poplin (98% cotton, 2% elastane, 2.95 oz/100gsm). The sample without the ruffle is also made from cotton poplin (100%, 2.95 oz/100 gsm). Both fabrics are by Atelier Vicolo N.6.

SIMISỌLÁ by Tammy Silver

Tammy Silver is a pattern designer based in London, England. Her SIMISÓ̩LÁ design draws inspiration from utilitarian fashion. For Tammy, it’s important that her designs can be both beautiful and useful.

SIMISÓ̩LÁ is a loose-fitting dress with lots of truly expressive options – or keep it simple to create the perfect layering piece for travel. You can include the special design elements and create a wrap at the front with a gathered peplum and rounded patch pocket. If you want to keep things simple and highlight the asymmetrical neckline as a unique design feature, cut the gathered skirt to midi length to create an easy sleeveless dress.

The mini dress sample is made from “Loom Off-White Linen Viscose” (50% linen, 50% viscose, 5.90 oz/200 gsm) and “Ochre Linen Viscose” (50% linen, 50% viscose, 5.60 oz/190 gsm). The midi dress sample is made from “Vichy Off-White River” double-gauze (100% cotton, 3.48 oz/118 gsm). All fabrics are by Atelier Brunette.

DEPARTURE by Lina Gaviria

A fashion designer based Melbourne, Australia, Lina Gaviria devotes her practice to the “little details” – unexpected construction techniques, understated elements, and inside-out surprises. The DEPARTURE tunic dress was designed with the idea of travelling back home: a place where we can be ourselves, a place of refuge and comfort. It is an effortless, versatile, and cosy garment that is equally beautiful on the inside as it is sewn primarily with French seams.

DEPARTURE is a short, voluminous dress with side-seam pockets. It has a split V-neckline with soft gathers at the front and back of the neck. The slight A-line silhouette is finished with a wide hem facing. The design has a drop-shoulder seam and gathered, voluminous sleeves with elasticated openings.

The gingham sample is made from muslin by Katia (71% cotton, 29% polyester, 4.72 oz/160 gsm) sold by Menita. The striped sample is made from organic fine poplin (100% cotton, 3.78 oz/128 gsm) from Ecological Textiles.

BILLY by Isabelle Levine

Isabelle Levine is a fashion designer based in Brooklyn, New York. The BILLY cargo pants were inspired by Isabelle’s background in luxury fashion and growing up with skate culture.

As befits cargo pants, the BILLY pattern includes plenty of pocket options! All pockets are patch pockets, so you can easily pick and choose without altering the pattern. Cargo shorts are another great variation –leave everything the same and just omit the bottom front and bottom back pieces.

The white sample pants are made using 100% linen (7.37 oz/250 gsm) from Menita. The grey sample is made using “Organic Cross Twill” (100% cotton, 6.75 oz/229 gsm) from Lebenskleidung.

EVA by Oda Stormoen

EVA is a comfy yet structured anorak designed to provide versatility and style for all kinds of travel. Created by Oda Stormoen, a Norwegian pattern designer and founder of the boutique pattern brand Flid, EVA embodies Oda’s signature style of romantic details combined with Scandinavian simplicity.

EVA is a classic anorak inspired by vagabonds, explorers, and wanderers. The design blends practicality and style in a perfect symbiosis, featuring a large front pocket, buttoned side vents, tie bands, and a comfortable hood construction. EVA has an oversized, roomy fit but maintains a sculpted silhouette through its defined shoulders and gathered balloon sleeves.

We recommend using medium to heavy-weight non-stretch fabrics such as woven cotton twill or gabardine. For a more water-resistant anorak, use cotton canvas waterproofed with wax. The lilac sample is made from “Gabardine Divine Parma” (100% cotton, 10.74 oz/364 gsm) and the white sample is made from “Gabardine Off-White” (100% cotton, 10.74 oz/364 gsm). Both fabrics are by Atelier Brunette.

KINDLING by Shannon McCann

Shannon McCann, a creator from a small mountain town in the Canadian Pacific Northwest, brings a playful touch to functional garments and natural fibres. Inspired by mountainwear, the KINDLING quilted jumper is a playful layer for city and country alike. Constructed from four quilted pieces, the jumper sports a crew neck, a high-low hem, and construction details reminiscent of vintage military liners. All seams are bias bound for a garment that is beautiful inside and out. KINDLING’s boxy shape and adjustable ties offer a great fit for a variety of bodies. Enjoy the ride and stay warm out there!

The wide, cropped-sleeve sample is made from blue meetMILK “Vida Voile Alpin Lyocell” (100% Tencel, 3.24 oz/110 gsm). The vest is made from grey hemp fabric (100% hemp, 5.01 oz/170 gsm). Both fabrics are sold by Siebenblau.

For the batting, choose natural fibres such as cotton, wool, bamboo, soy, or a blend. For the samples, we used a medium-weight sewable volume fleece made of soy and cotton (50% cotton, 50% soy, 3.48 oz/118 gsm) by Anita Pavani Stoffe.
