The FREYA dress is available in two distinct versions – one rich in loving details and decorative touches, and a simpler, pareddown sister design.

Version A has a playful and intricate look, featuring a wavy collar and ties at the neckline that are finished with contrasting end tabs. The sleeves and the back of the bodice are embellished with delicate pintucks, and the hem is adorned with Froschgoscherl and knife-pleated trims. The sleeve cuffs are scalloped and elasticized, and the skirt hem echoes this scalloped finish. You can add a belt with ties that feature the same contrasting decorative tabs as the neckline, or wear it without a belt. By making version A, you’ll learn a variety of new fabric manipulation techniques and decorative element-making skills that you can easily apply to future projects!

Version B offers a clean, minimalist alternative. Designed without a collar, this version has simple neckline ties without contrasting ends. There are no pintucks or trims, giving the dress a straightforward and relaxed feel. For an even more reduced look, you could use a button with a loop or a hook on the neckline. The sleeve cuffs have straight hems without elastic and are designed to be rolled up casually. The straight skirt hem and tie belt with square ends and no contrasting accent make this version perfect for those who prefer an understated silhouette.

Fabric Recommendations:
FREYA works best with light or medium- weight woven fabrics. Consider using Tana Lawn, cotton poplin, linen, chambray, or silk. Trims may be easiest to work with if the fabrics have a little bit of structure and press well.

Version A is made in “Pure Solids” poplin in the colour 534 Bewitched, with details in contrasting fabric in the colour 563 Stargazing (100% cotton, 3.69 oz/125 gsm). Both fabrics by Art Gallery Fabrics. Version B is made in “Ikat Pochampally” (100% cotton, 3.54 oz/120 gsm) by Karlotta Pink Fabrics.
