Taking inspiration from historical tie-on pockets, the ROO tie pocket is a modern, roomy design with cargo-style gussets on two sides and a handy coin pocket. Its versatility makes it perfect for adding both function and flair to any outfit – wear a single pocket or pair them for the left and right sides. If your garment has a waistband but no pockets, you can stitch the ROO in directly or add a channel along the top through which to thread a belt. For a playful twist, attach one or two pockets to long ties and knot them around your waist or shoulder to create an instantly wearable accessory that blends practicality with style.

Fabric Recommendations:
Suitable fabrics include medium-weight, firmly woven fabrics such as denim, corduroy, cotton drill, sturdy cotton or linen, gabardine, and wool that is firmly woven and not too thick. Plain, striped, and checked fabrics, as well as directional prints, are all good options. Make sure the fabric isn’t too thick; otherwise, some parts of the pocket may be too bulky to sew. The pieces do not all have to be cut from the same fabric. They can be cut from a variety of scraps, which is why the fabric requirements are divided for different pieces. You can also use repurposed fabric, such as old jeans.
Fabric Requirements:
Pocket fabric: 7"/18 cm x 11.6"/29.5 cm Gusset fabric: 3.1"/8 cm x 17.9"/45.5 cm Side strip fabric: 1.5"/4 cm x 7"/18 cm (use optional also a bias binding) Channel fabric (optional): 7"/18 cm x 4.3"/11 cm
Accessories:
Pre-made bias binding, width 1"/2.5 cm, length 9"/21 cm. Note: You can also make the bias binding yourself. Cut 1.5"/4 cm x 9"/21 cm on bias to make your own bias binding. -
