Sewing was a hobby for Malena Hjerpe when she was young, and it turned into a career. She has worked as a patternmaker for almost fifteen years, the last six as a freelancer. Unfortunately, she stopped sewing for herself when she started working. She found her way back into the world of home sewing through her PDF pattern line, Hazelhen Patterns, and discovered what an amazing community it had become. Creating her own patterns has become a creative outlet.
The NEPETA dress, Malena’s latest creation, is a tribute to the denim aesthetic. She wanted to create an effortless, timeless piece for everyday wear. She chose the name from the Nepeta × faassenii flower (commonly known as catnip) because the colour reminded her of indigo.
From each pattern purchase, we give 50% to the designer. Our goal is to support independent creatives and promote a democratic and open society.

Fabric Recommendations:
The NEPETA dress works best in light to medium-weight woven fabrics. Consider using cotton, Tencel, linen, or viscose. If you opt for a lightweight fabric, you can add interfacing to the hem facings and cuffs. The short-sleeved sample is made in “Fine Blue Hemp Chambray” (100% hemp, 3.8 oz/130 gsm). The long-sleeved sample is made in “Chambray Denim Indigo GOTS” (100% organic cotton, 5.5 oz/185 gsm). Both fabrics from Ecological Textiles.
