TAUKO turns 4!
We have been working on TAUKO Magazine since the first issue: Mila is our editor, Kaisa is our head of design, and Hanna is our community builder. Photo by our photographer: Laura Oja
The very first issue of TAUKO Magazine was photographed in August 2021 and shared with an international sewing community later that year. Since then, we’ve published 16 issues, a full four years of TAUKO. It feels like such a short time, like we are only just beginning!
Over the past year, the feeling that we need to step boldly out into the world has only grown stronger. A four-year-old child is often described as: “curious, full of questions, exploring the world with a vivid and lively imagination.” Strangely enough, that description also feels true for publishing. The first years are so focused on building the foundations and organising everything, with little time to look beyond one’s own work. Curiosity, openness, courage, and confidence take time to grow, and this year has truly been the time for them to bloom.
The year has taken us on physical journeys to London, across Germany, and throughout Finland. Thanks to digital connections, we’ve also travelled virtually to the US and to countless other countries, guided by new friends, designers, and partners. We have attended fairs, workshops, dinners, lunches, coffee mornings, walks and photoshoots. Most precious of all have been the monthly community meetings, and the process of building up the Make and Share community, which now has more than 100 active members. These initiatives are open to all and have enabled us to become part of a very special community where people create, share, support each other and get involved. In just one year, you can meet tens or even hundreds of people and be inspired by countless stories. To absorb the world and life, to be influenced and to influence.
Amidst all the upheavals of the wider world, TAUKO has, especially this past year, grown into a truly wonderful, safe and supportive place to be. Curious and open, always ready for dialogue, supportive and attentive, and sharing diverse ways of living and making.
We are deeply grateful for this past year — and for the opportunity to continue this journey with you!
With much love,
Mila, your editor
