FRILLZ was designed for one purpose: to turn heads. It’s a true showstopper with extra everything and a serious wow factor. But it’s actually not hard to sew. We’ve removed all the tricky and time-consuming finishes from this expressive piece – no facings, linings, or zips (you’re welcome!).
The magic of this piece comes from ... you guessed it: the abundance of frills. Whether as a dress or a two-piece set, it is the ruffles that make this design truly special. And because of those ruffles, the possibilities are endless. You can completely change the vibe each time you make it – if you feel like making it more than once, that is! Try skipping the top ruffles and adding frills to the skirt only, or do the opposite and keep the skirt simple while adding drama to the top.
The skirt has a waistband tunnel with a tie for adjusting the width. Alternatively, you can use elastic instead of ties. Choose a skirt length that suits you. The samples include a long skirt with seven ruffle tiers, a top, and a short dress with three ruffle tiers. Good luck, and have fun!

Fabric Recommendations:
For the ruffles: Lightweight fabrics truly shine when gathered. Look for airy, fluid options such as organza, tulle, or lace – materials that retain their volume without being heavy. Thicker fabrics can also be used, but be prepared for more effort at the sewing machine. Ideally, choose fabrics that are easy to serge, or even better, ones that don’t require any finishing, allowing the ruffle edge to remain light and effortless. For the base pattern pieces: Ground the design with a fabric that offers a little more structure. Poplin, viscose, and cotton blends are stable yet comfortable, striking a quiet balance between support and softness.
Fabric Requirements:
NOTE! The skirt pieces for the long version should be cut perpendicular to the grain line.
