This design includes instructions for creating a hand-embroidered “Blooming Uterus” patch by artist Naushin Kaipally to add a personal and meaningful element to your garment. Jenny Hassler is a designer who lives and works in the mountains of North Carolina, USA. The design of the MOVEMENT jacket was inspired by a lifetime of activism. “When I was protesting as a young mom, we kept a sign in the back of the car with different velcro-attached sayings to be deployed for spontaneous action. This jacket gives you that opportunity, too! Changing the circular patch allows you to customize this jacket to the seasons, your activities, or your activism.” Created in collaboration with embroidery artist Naushin Kaipally, the denim MOVEMENT jacket with “Blooming Uterus” patch speaks out for menstrual health aiming to normalize periods and break the taboos surrounding them.

Fabric Recommendations:
MOVEMENT can be made in a wide range of woven fabrics – from lightweight lace to medium-weight denim or canvas. For the version with a zipper closure at the front, we recommend a sturdy, medium-weight fabric such as denim. The denim sample with peplum is made in “Etta Washed Denim” in mid blue (100% cotton, 7.37 oz/250 gsm) with a shortened separating zipper (original 55 cm) in indigo blue. The lace version is made in “Lucy Lace” in navy, pink, and baby blue (nylon/spandex blend, 2.65 oz/90 gsm). The bias is “Leia Crepe Bias Tape” (0.07"/0.18 cm) in fuchsia.
